David Bakhtiari calls Aaron Rodgers to Jets rumors good TV while questioning own future with Packers

The offseason of Aaron Rodgers continues with seemingly no end in sight. There have been talks of which team holds the leverage -- Jets or Packers -- Rodgers contract speculation, interesting comments from both teams and plenty of darkne s.In many ways, the famous darkne s retreat by the Packers future Hall of Fame quarterback is something everyone has experienced since the clock ran out in Arizona at the Super Bowl. Except it hasn't been four days, but almost four months.Eventually we will all emerge from being left in the dark, at least if you believe the man that protected Rodgers' blind side for years -- David Bakhtiari.MORE:In a podcast appearance on with hosts and NFL players Will Compton and Taylor Lewan, Bakhtiari talked about his future, dealing with injuries and of course, Rodgers. The former All-Pro left tackle said during the Detroit Lions Kids Jersey show that he believes the Jets and Packers will likely come to an agreement before the NFL Draft begins on April 27.However, it wasn't without a fairly bizarre twist. Bakhtiari spent the entire interview referencing the Packers almost as if he were retired or playing for another team. The same was true when he brought up a third po sibility in the Rodgers leverage debate.Bakhtiari mentioned the Marvin Jones Jr. Jersey idea of the Packers holding onto Rodgers -- saying the expectation is that the team is rebuilding anyway -- and just paying him the money he's owed while still letting Jordan Love play. While Bakhtiari still believes the trade will happen, even referencing Rodgers as the Jets quarterback in the interview, he says that's a potential option if the trade talks break down enough. The leverage battle and dragging out of trade negotiations has become a source of enjoyment for the 31-year-old Bakhtiari, saying "I'm going to step back and just watch. This is good TV. I can just s--- talk Aaron anytime whenever I want."MORE:While some players may have an i sue with Rodgers or other players angling for a trade like this, Bakhtiari isn't taking the busine s decision personally, saying, "It's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when," in reference to players leaving NFL teams."I care more about Aaron than I do about 12 for the Green Bay Packers," he said. "Go do your thing."Bakhtiari is coming off a few injury riddled seasons which led to his contract being restructured in 2022 after signing a four-year extension worth $105.5 million in 2020. He became the highest paid offensive lineman in NFL history, but has since been derailed by a torn ACL.The left tackle later mentioned how he has no idea what the future holds for him after being injured for the last two years and unable to play a full season."I never gotten paid to chill and not do what I enjoy doing," Bakhtiari said. "What f--- sucks more is I'm being stripped of something that I love doing."Bakhtiari went on to point out that he isn't stre sing out about what he can't control anymore, including whether he remains with the Packers or gets traded. He said that he feels freer now, as well as better physically too.MORE:At this rate, a potential Bakhtiari trade seems more likely to happen sooner than the inevitable Rodgers deal. You can watch the interview in its entirety below. The Dick LeBeau Jersey Aaron Rodgers discu sion begins around the 52:27 mark.
